MY OWN PRIVATE HELL

Inferninho

Directed by Guto Parente, Pedro Diogenes
Brazil, 2018
Drama, LGBTQ+, Avant-Garde, Comedy

Synopsis

Deusimar’s bar is very special. The kind of place where the bartender wears a pink rabbit suit and the vocalist doesn’t quite make the notes. Gay, straight, dragqueen or Disney fan: here people can live out their dreams to the full, surrounded by flashing Christmas lights and pink glitter trimmings.

Our take

Pedro Diogenes and Guto Parente’s glamorous yet low-budget wonder brings to life the lurid world of dive-bars and down-and-outs who dream of better things. Yuri Yamamoto shines as the Campari-swigging tranvestite owner of the Inferninho in this empathetic queer ode to community and camaraderie.
