Joker পরিচালনা করেছেন Todd Phillips
The film operates under the belief that anything that works once will go over even better the tenth time, and this repetition of effects blunts impact.

There’s no accounting for how people relate to or understand even the most didactic movie. But what mostly struck me both times was how rotely, how condescendingly, the movie animates the tortured soul at its center.

Joker is replete with the signifiers of great cinema, all dialed up so heavily that they could denote parody if the film were not so serious.

  • chanandre's rating of the film Joker

[CascaisVilla] The most relatable emo serial killer since M's Hans Beckert. A very nuanced character. Great tackle on mental disease, comedy, fame and motherhood. I preferred the death of Bruce Wayne's parents as shot by Snyder. Clearly a film slap: a film of the times, for the times. V for Vendetta against the yuppies/1%. Joaquin has surpassed Day Lewis as THE greatest Hollywood character actor. This oscar is his.▽

  • Palmat's rating of the film Joker

Phoenix delivers a fine performance in a middling and mediocre movie. It might look and sound like a winner but comes up empty when it comes to agency and meaning. I could not help but be reminded of Phoenix turn in You Were Never Really Here (which in a way echoes this one) which was more satisfying. This is basically Falling Down but with a murky logic and broken moral backbone. Interesting but flawed...

  • Duncan Gray's rating of the film Joker

Well done until it overplays its hand. Phillips spoke of disguising a "real movie" as superhero IP—a culture clash currently in the news. As a comic book movie, it's a big cut above in craft, character, thematic nuance, and reality-bending mind-games. As a real movie, just set it next to where it pulled all of the above from and you'll see how clumsy and thin it can be—half edifying the multiplex, half trolling it.

  • Renton47's rating of the film Joker

Wish I had seen it earlier so I could have offered a response to everyone who attested to me how seriously it should be taken, that it's disturbing or offers anything but the most programmatic signalling of mental health issues. Best part of Phoenix's performance was when he went on TV at the end. No psychological insight in sight, a real contempt for people and a cowardly response to the Beetz character.

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Joker

Imagine Lang's M remade by D.W. Griffith with sprinkles of Miller's Batman thrown in & the result would look a lot like Joker. Like its incoherent & fascist terrorist of a protagonist, the film seeks power & self-importance over all else; doing everything under the sun to achieve the illusion of it. It's as if the movie's almost in love with itself as much as it hates its own audience. Of course it will win Oscars.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Joker

Probably one of the ugliest and most unpleasant headspaces you can voluntarily choose to inhabit at your local multiplex since Rob Zombie's "Halloween II." But to me this mostly felt like the 2010's answer to the "Watchmen" movie: powerful subject matter deployed by a shallow script and a filmmaker who lacks control over the material. The Joker isn't a character I ever needed to feel sympathy for.

  • HenriqueA's rating of the film Joker

Just like "Fight Club", it's not as smart or insightful as people would want you to believe but it delivers on the entertainment factor with a not-quite-spectacular Joaquin Phoenix and all the anorexia fetish you may want. It leaves a lot to be desired if it was meant to be a commentary on our own political and societal struggles. But of course, it only was meant to sell tickets and toys. And that's ok. Next.

  • Francisco R.'s rating of the film Joker

Perhaps the most talked about movie of the season, it amounts to a decent effort that's not without its flaws, mainly due to the directorial decisions. It seems that Todd Phillips is uncertain about the kind of movie he wants to make, sometimes channeling "Taxi Driver" and "The King of Comedy", sometimes referencing its comic book origins, and sometimes being callously celebratory of the main character's evildoing.
