Rosemonde the Salamander is a young girl who gets by thanks to low-paid jobs of all kinds. She is suspected of attempting to kill the uncle with whom she lives. A journalist and a writer are hired to get to the bottom of this mystery, as the basis for a television film scenario.

Subtitled “a color film in monochrome,” LA SALAMANDRE was shot like a cinema verite documentary in gritty black-and-white; the film’s color, presumably, comes from the characters, who exhibit a complexity that books have traditionally been better at conveying than movies.
Geneva in b&w two years after the events of May 68 in France. Jean-Luc Godard was in the middle of his Maoïst period and the members of the Group 5 (5 young directors of the French speaking part of Switzerland) proposed their first movies then. This one earned an OCIC award in Berlin. As though it is a little bit verbose at times, The Salamander is nonetheless a must for those of us interested in Swiss cinema.
Ogier's spellbinding face serves as both siren and cipher in Tanner and Berger's tale, which is less about red-toothed Rosemonde than it is about its tellers--or their proxies, Pierre and Paul, the film's stand-in storytellers and projectionists (on the screen of Ogier's face, of course). All dead winning fellows when knowingly mocking themselves about this state of affairs, but scarcely buyable as Marxian feminists.
This one reminds me the adaptation of Peter Handke's books on screen, in the road movie genre. Really love how the three main lost characters finally develops a powerful and quite fatalist vision about consumption society. My type of film as I can refer closely to my own life experience and its wanderings.
Una protagonista que emula a los personajes de la nouvelle vague. Ella se convierte en obsesión de los hombres. Más allá de su físico, es su personalidad la que embelesa. Es un comportamiento inconforme, libre, impulsivo, despreocupado, siempre fabricando un perfil de misterioso. Las escenas (como el final) en que ella se refleja plena y natural son las mejores. Lo resto del filme no alcanza ese atractivo de la mujer
