The Wild Boys পরিচালনা করেছেন Bertrand Mandico
A dense thicket of sounds, superimpositions, and in-camera effects, shifting between black-and-white and color, The Wild Boys is both liberation and horror, anarchic and highly constructed, brave in its focus on the body as both erogenous and alien zone.

A gender-detonating fantasia that shifts from monochrome to bursts of decadent color—labial pinks, violent violets—and back again, The Wild Boys follows only the imperatives of its writer-director’s glut instinct.

A supremely assured piece of craftsmanship, evincing an active creative engagement and ample imagination in every minute of its nearly two-hour runtime, but for all the maturity of the command on display, there is little about it to suggest it was made by an artist who was trying to put adolescence behind him.

মানুষ কী বলছে?

  • Levi Miah's rating of the film The Wild Boys

If cinema was invented in 1980 instead of 1890, this is probably what the first film would look like. Mandico's cinematic influences are heavy, but the sheer amount along with consistent surreality and pure imagination grounds the whole film, far surpassing homage. The score and sound are exceptional and its use of colour is repeatedly striking. A sublime, poetic journey into nightmarishly phallic madness.

  • Lex Lucas's rating of the film The Wild Boys

Pure freedom in creation. This is what we need in those times of strong conformism in creativity. It has flaws, but they are part of this freedom. "we need to reconquer the imaginary" I absolutely agree with you Bertrand.

  • Ostermyers's rating of the film The Wild Boys

French cinema at its best. Thank you Mandico. Just thank you !

  • msmichel's rating of the film The Wild Boys

Magnificent. Mandico's debut feature echoes and brings to fruition many of the themes and undertones of his short films including surrealism, gender tomes, perversity and flamboyant filmic devices. The conceit brings to mind the work of Guy Maddin but not in a derivative fashion. This is a filmmaker with an unique vision that begs discovery.

  • dionysus67's rating of the film The Wild Boys

Mandico's craftmanship in generating startling imagery is undeniable. Here, the color bits are extremely inviting to the eye and with some astounding use of light. If there is something that lets the whole venture down is the phallic obsession in the carnivorous pantheism of the Garden of Delights, which tends to dissipate in effect in the protracted plot. The influences many -the last shot is pure Klimov. Good.

  • josé neves's rating of the film The Wild Boys

PC. The composite audiovisual authoritative, simultaneously "artistique" and "provocateur", terms that could mean much more than "poseur", but that, in fact, don't. Overloaded with symbology, imagery and sound, the ever-present music of contemporary cinema, full of effects and pretensions, this film is an inoperative act of simulation by means of a disguise policy:it's, indeed simplistic (even in terms of sexuality).

  • Jason's rating of the film The Wild Boys

It's tempting to simply enumerate at length things Mandico throws into the ol' Cuisinart. Burroughs, Acker, Rimbaud, Shakespeare, Melville, LORD OF THE FLIES. Anger, Ruiz, Maddin, Vigo, Buñuel, Eisenstein, ORLANDO. What matters is that THE WILD BOYS is sexy, deranged, provocative, and aesthetically stimulating. Seemingly beholden to schtick, it is uncommon as such in that it only increases in fascination as it plays.

  • Richmond Hill's rating of the film The Wild Boys

Mandico has undeniable visual flair but nearly two hours saturated with mechanically quirky visuals, but little in the way of satisfying verisimilitude, is trying in the extreme. The tiresome politics are no doubt it’s fashionable - and overexposed - calling card, but it’s still hitching a lift on the latest bandwagon albeit with novelty bunting. As filmmaking it’s the posturing aesthetics of perfume commercials.
