Choppy direction, rather disappointing. I hate to think that this woman could have been as humorless as this film. My favorite parts were the scenes with her cat. I liked the cat. Recommended for those who have an infinite appetite for very dry Socialist polemic, which is most of what this film consists of: Socialist polemic which isn't half as entertaining as a Bernie Sanders speech.
A bit confusing as it is presented in a non-chronological way,as in a literary piece.RL appears here in various political contexts, through casual life or in a relations with friends and lovers. I must be one of those who loves "dry socialist discourses" in which RL is profetic (on war) or lucid (on Russian suffering, revolution creating unions). You need a brisk info on the political characters that appear (eg Kautsky)
Another instance of a Wikipedia article in motion. Very little motion in this case, since it's mostly speeches, alternating with prison walls. Sukowa did what she could, but von Trotta should have tried harder.
