Toy Story 2

By most measures, this sequel is where both the cast of characters and the franchise itself became the "Toy Story" fans know and love. The 4 years between entries leads to a rather impressive leap forward in animation, allowing Wayne Knight's human character to play a larger role in the plot, but it's the sharper writing that takes centerstage here. For my money, this is the funniest installment in the series.

As you watch the tech improve, you also start realising that all TOY STORYs are "mission movies" or "rescue movies"; #2 is the first hint of the strong emotional pull the series would chart.

Every bit as good as the first Toy Story. All the clever and subtle humor are there as well as a few heartbreaking scenes.

I was amazed at how good this sequel was. I loved the first Toy Story but this one really knocked it out of the park for me and showed me for the first time how great Pixar really was.

3.4 stars. Never much cared for 'Toy Story 2' as a kid, though I was possibly a couple of years too old for it. My main issue was always that the new toys were significantly less charming and appealing than the old toys, I think. Still, it's a rather smart dissection of the collector's impulse towards deathly ossification. Ultimately I'd rather have read and scuffed my Chris Ware comics than have left them pristine!

Too bad they released it in the time that probably every kid that watched the first movie, wasn't into disney movies. The third movie on the other hand had a perfect timing for the original public, when the nostalgia hit them the most.

Is it wrong to say that the appeal to these movies are more interesting to boys than girls as we follow boys toys? At least the creators tried to add a female cowboy so that the girls had someone a little cooler to follow than a cute Shephard's girl but it didn't help my 7-year-old to care. The film is a more action-filled remake of the original. The cutest thing in the film was the Penguin with the broken voice.

Who knew we could empathize so much with toy-related problems, or even care for that matter but boy do we. This sequel presents us with a natural evolution to the franchise posing the problem of growing up and what that means to the toys: being left out, forgotten. While this issue may resonate with some poor, unlucky people, this isn't such a problem for us, but still care. Some plot conveniences are annoying tho.
