After watching "Up," I know why its fans, many of them serious cineastes, hold it in such high regard. While the middle of the film is largely taken up by the usual Disney movie anthropomorphic antics, there were plenty of moments during "Up" in which I felt like I was watching an European art film in the vein of "Umberto D.," only rendered in a vivid palette that causes colors to pop gloriously off the screen.
This is everything Crystal Skull should have been and my vote for Pixar's finest. Through all the action, the humor and vibrant colors lies an almost tragic tale of an individual who, after being held back all his life by social and personal duties, finally stretches his wings and flies towards his sole desire in life, and all of it simply to keep a promise to his most precious companion. Pixar's masterpiece
its hard not to fall in love with UP(emm, actually, its hard not to fall in love with pixar movies).this latest offerings from the factory of wonders is many things.it is funny,it is adventurous, and it is probably their most romantic movie to date. the first ten minute is a real gem,a classic, which makes me forgive about the weak, generic third act.
I agree with the people saying the first part of the film should exist on it's own. The rest of the film is pretty enjoyable, the talking dogs felt like it was too trying to hard to appeal to a very young audience.
I actually wasn't expecting much from this one, maybe I figured Pixar would have to screw up eventually, but somehow they've managed to do it again. A seamless mixture of genuine heart, humor, and action - all set to Michael Giacchino's excellent score. Maybe not quite on the level of some of Pixar's other masterpieces, but this is still leagues above what anybody else is doing in animation.
