'[Masaaki Ito on Eiichi Kudo] He was a B-class moviemaker in terms of hierarchy, but he certainly viewed himself as an auteur director. He had certain privileges which other Toei directors envied. But on the set, he would do things which directors did not normally do, like clean up the set, carry spotlights, etc. All the actors and technicians truly loved him. He was a great director.'
