The Auteurs Poll Results about 5 years ago

I have a results update. Due to a simple typo, there was an error in the top 10 directors list.
I posted:

The Top Ten Directors

1. Stanley Kubrick

2. Federico Fellini

3. Alfred Hitchcock

4. Ingmar Bergman

Akira Kurosawa

Orson Welles

7. Francis Ford Coppola

8. Andrei Tarkovsky

9. Martin Scorsese

10. Jean-Luc Godard

It should read:

The Top Ten Directors

1. Stanley Kubrick

2. Federico Fellini

3. Ingmar Bergman

Akira Kurosawa

Orson Welles

6. Alfred Hitchcock

7. Francis Ford Coppola

8. Andrei Tarkovsky

9. Martin Scorsese

10. Jean-Luc Godard

Hitchcock received 30 votes.

Sorry for the confusion.

My Winnipeg almost 5 years ago

I think it is his best work also. It was actually the first Maddin film I saw but it prompted me to seek out everything he has done. I love Brand Upon the Brain but I honestly think Heart of the World is my runner-up favourite.

I reviewed My Winnipeg last year http://thebrowncoat.blogspot.com/2008/08/my-winnipeg.html

Unable to shake off the after effects of Antichrist. Ebert writes one of his most interesting posts. http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2009/05/a_devils_advocate_for_antichri.html

The Decalogue almost 5 years ago

The Decalogue is one of the best works in the medium. It is so complex but presented so simply. The way Kieslowski can dramatize ideas rather than explain them is remarkable.

IFC has acquired the North American rights to Antichrist. Hopefully it wont be too long a wait until it is released.

I bought the box set, but have only watched The 400 Blows thus far. It is aesthetically pleasing though.

I happened to get the set during Criterion’s big sale last fall. If you can find it for a good price, I’d jump on it.

YOUR PREDICTION FOR THIS YEAR'S PALM D'OR WINNER? almost 5 years ago

Wild Grass sounds like a good bet, but I think I’ll put my money on The White Ribbon. It is Haneke’s 6th film to compete at Cannes and he has yet to bring home the Palme D’or. I’d be thrilled if Antichrist won though.

TOP TEN 2000 - 2008 almost 5 years ago

Glad to see Goodbye Solo regarded so highly. I can’t wait to see it.

1. Synecdoche, New York
2. Mulholland Drive
3. The Royal Tenenbaums
4. Oldboy
5. Elephant
6. Children of Men
7. In Bruges
8. Grizzly Man
9. Punch-Drunk Love
10. The Dark Knight

This will change rapidly.

I’m re watching all my favourite films of the decade in order to prepare for making a top ten list at the end of the year. Any obscure films I may have missed that I should check out?
