Based on true events, the film chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis at the height of the Iranian revolution — the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.

this made me cry from sheer emotion. wasn't this thrilled on a film since 'el secreto de sus ojos' amazing movie. period. script. score. story. actors. the works. clap clap clap. oscar oscar oscar. truly breathtaking when the plane actually lifts off i felt such relief i actually cried like a baby...it's so intense so well done...congrats benjamin ;)
Cookie-cutter Hollywood film with a familiar message - America is awesome. I suppose there are enjoyable cinematic moments in the movie and occasional bits of unexpected humor, but I merely shrug my shoulders after viewing it. Argo bends far closer to fiction than anything representing reality.
Argo is a strange fish with its serious, historical leanings that devolve into the type of Hollywood entertainment that it seems to mock. Some elements are done quite well, but in the end it's just empty calories. 3.5 stars
Piss & moan about Ben Affleck to your heart's content, but he made a very solid movie with Argo. Great cast (including Affleck himself), great direction and cinematography. The opening and closing scenes built some great tension and suspense, which saved it from being a dull historical docudrama. I'm kind of wishing I saw it in theaters.
This did not live up to the hype, honestly. There were some chillingly tense moments (that opening scene was incredibly well done), but Ben Affleck's hero character was underdeveloped and underacted (and poorly self-cast). Some of the other actors were hammy and unrealistic next to the seriousness of the situation. All in all, mildly predictable and strangely quiet about Canada's true involvement in the whole caper.
Good "middle-of-the-road" drama/thriller with some tense scenes and overall solid acting. Affleck keeps the story tight and lean, a bit too lean for my taste. I wish that I had gotten to know the characters a bit more cause I had a bit of hard time really caring for them. Production values are top notch. Well worth seeing but it does not give you anything you haven't seen before.
Politically astute compared with most Hollywood thrillers, politically naive compared with most first-year sociology classes. Ah well, at least it gave Alan Arkin an opportunity to prove he still has one of the best comic deliveries around.
Argo sets up an intriguing tension between Hollywood fantasy and complicated political reality, except as the movie went on, I got the feeling that I was thinking about all that a lot more than Ben Affleck did. In short, it's a just-for-fun movie pretending to be important—I much prefer it the other way around.
