Avengers: Endgame Instrueret af Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Endgame’s three-hour length suggests profundity, but each bout of knuckle-busting between the specially gifted vigilantes and the demonic Thanos (Josh Brolin) either panders (the last-minute arrival of pre-technology Wakanda warriors is a risible reversal of the cavalry bit in Westerns) or, at best, is merely redundant (Marvel’s distaff troops line up behind Brie Larsen’s Captain Marvel, the mean-girl superheroine).

The pointed emotionalism in this premise . . . suggests that a resonant film might have emerged from “Endgame.” Some scenes have a strong melodramatic authority, and there are a few situations that induce an inspired aura of the uncanny. But these moments get lost in the movie’s stiflingly rigid yet bloated three-hour span.

It’s testament to the film’s sure hand with cosmic soap opera that scenes between characters who don’t really belong together – the Hulk and Dr Strange’s mentor the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) – are as affecting as the moments where heroes reconnect with dead parents (there’s a lot of that going about, as in almost all superhero stories).

  • Ethan's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

This is one epic film that is an emotional rollercoaster. The culmination of everything they have done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on full display here and it is ripped apart even further to head scratching lengths but the charisma and charm of this film overpower its confusion and makes for a very entertaining cluster fuck that will have you on the edge of your seat and anticipating what might happen next.

  • Jérémy Poirier's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

A beautifully crafted and climactic payoff to character and narrative arcs that were set-up during the 21 first films of the MCU. A very rewarding and surprising 3 hour long epic that takes its time to deliver a satisfying and entertaining story. Its a huge and monumental film with a touching emotional core. Plus it is visually stunning and the sound design is perfect. I wanna see it again.

  • HenriqueA's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

I laughed. I cried. I was pissed. I left the theater happy. It was pretty smart and also pretty fucking dumb. I guess if you shoot everything at the wall something sticks, especially when everything is like 300 characters and 40 storylines and a few twists and turns and deaths. The less you think about it the more you'll love it and it was made to be loved by the fans, so there's nothing really bad I can say about it

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

After 21 movies of varying quality in 11 years, it was easy to walk into "Avengers: Endgame" a cynic - but the Russo Brothers pulled it off. They spend three hours deftly balancing introspective character beats (with frequent long takes that showcase performance), playful - and not unwarranted - fan service, and the culmination of a storyline that began before some of the kids in my audience were even born.

  • Steve Pulaski's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

An epic 11+ years in the making, featuring some of the most memorable characters in a decade and then some, "Avengers: Endgame" is a satisfying conclusion that accomplishes what it needed to. Despite a marginally cheap plot device at its core, which opens up a lot of holes, the film remains committed to pleasing those who took this odyssey. Its emotional payoff is grand, and we may never see a series like this again.

  • Palmat's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

A very good end and a well staged greatest hits cavalcade with heart pumping action and sentimental schmaltz to wet your eyes. The best bit is the time heist thing but it is unfortunately brushed to the side for more conventional action fare. It might not get everything right, but it is close.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

The Marvel machine brings their 20 plus film series to a tentative conclusion with this enjoyable epic that brings many of the plot strands and character arcs to a narrative finish. Marvel and the Russo brothers know their audiences well and many moments play into the audience expectation and hopes. Often rousing and even emotional at times with a surprising hint of nostalgia for a series only eleven years old.

  • Z's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

Amounts to a Marvel greatest hits collection. A cynical, joyless, monolithic slab of corporate branding and intellectual property promotion/management. About as exciting as sitting in a boardroom listening to a Disney executive expounding endlessly on marketing penetration plans. The pseudo-emotional moments ring hollow. There are no narrative stakes of any kind. Deadening to one's intellect, numbing to one's soul.
