Controversially great and greatly controversial, particularly if you go in blind. A thoughtful indictment that spins wildly. The last scene should have been cut, and the chaos portion is overwrought, but do not mar the whole. This is a film I thought about for days after viewing. Hard to rate 4.49+
And that's why you don't date narcissist people. But, if we're being serious – the absurd, hyperbolic events developing into absolute and hypnotic madness and yet, the feeling they give is somewhat.. recognizable? As if we were the mother and the attackers at the same time.
Ok, so here we have a profound example of asymmetry. Mother! - starting off- gives you the impression of a psychological thriller set around the Woman's mentality. Well into the half of the movie you get your hopes up, thinking this may be a black comedy dressed up to look mighty serious in its purpose. That's when you get the allegory and it all gets overwhelming.
This film was brilliant as a horror film, meant to disturb but yet still try to say something to the audience. However, I felt that even though the overall allegory of God, Mother Nature & Men was pretty clear- the film took the metaphorical aspect too far. I felt uncomfortable because the film wasn't firstly showing a plot then telling the audience to infer from that, but just shoving the big idea into our face.
