In Pietro Germi’s hilarious and cutting satire of Sicilian male-chauvinist culture, Baron Ferdinando Cefalù (Marcello Mastroianni) longs to marry his nubile young cousin Angela (Stefania Sandrelli), but one obstacle stands in his way: his fatuous and fawning wife, Rosalia (Daniela Rocca).

This is a brilliant comedy and another great performance from the incredibly badass Marcello Mastroianni. Pietro Germi just had a special knack for making insane comedies that are ironically tragic but nevertheless, still funny as hell.
How hadn't Edna heard of this one before, dears? Excellent performances, beautiful photography and hilarious (an)tics. As wittily cynical as that old Edna favourite black comedy Meisterstuck KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS.
Entertaining black comedy from director Pietro Germi. Great characters - Marcello Mastroianni is at his best with his trademark offbeat cool - clever twists, and a very funny ending. It does feel a bit too drawn out, not always sustaining the comic energy it should have, so it falls just short of being a real classic.
Such a hilarious experience. I watched this film at a Marcello Mastroianni retrospective in a theatre with senior Italian couples on their date night, talking Italian and laughing out loud at all sorts of references that took me a while to catch up on. It made the experience better tenfold.
