Fright Night

Instrueret af Tom Holland
USA, 1985
Komedie, Rædsel, Thriller

For young Charlie Brewster, nothing could be better than an old horror movie late at night. Two men move in next door and for Charlie, with his horror movie experience, there can be no doubt that their strange behavior is explained by the fact that they are a vampire and his undead day guardian.

Hvad siger folk?

  • Nicholas Gregory's rating of the film Gysertimen

More like An American Werewolf in London than Scream or Cabin in the Woods in its metaness, as Fright Night actually reinvents its genre, using a serious and respectable tone to its influences, and is a product of it, instead of a conceited comedy. The acting has flavor despite simple-minded characterizations-- even Geoffreys is oddly likeable-- and the script is well paced in its finding the soul of each scene.

  • Z's rating of the film Gysertimen

One of the first truly postmodern horror films. Beat "Scream" to the punch by about ten years. Both honors and comments on it's genre with joyful aplomb. The cast is magnificent! Chris Sarandon is the ultimate master vampire. Stephen Geoffreys is terrifying and tragic. Roddy McDowell has never been better. A delicious lover letter to fans of Hammer horror and vampire films in general. Fiendishly entertaining and fun.

  • Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Gysertimen

I know its a beloved cult classic for many, but I found it to be pretty awful. It does get better toward the end, and there are some cool creature effects, but for the most part its an excruciating slog through a half-baked plot with some horribly annoying cartoon characters (Stephen Geoffreys is especially unbearable). Possibly worth watching for the strong gory ending if you can actually sit through the rest of it.

  • Daniel S.'s rating of the film Gysertimen

Thank you Murnau, Tod Browning and Terence Fisher. Thanks to you all, Tom Holland got the chance to make a cult movie by parodying some of your best scenes. And I loved it. Shame on me! Reserved to teenagers and nostalgic ones.

  • Palmat's rating of the film Gysertimen

Really fun movie that moves briskly and spinkles both laughs and creepiness throughout the whole running time. The casting and acting is really very good and the cardboard characters comes alive despite the genre trappings. Fiedel's score is also wonderful with its 80's synthastic sounds. The scriptwriting and direction is quite accomplished. A perfect 80's movie and perfect for Halloween.

  • Mugino's rating of the film Gysertimen

This was one of the very first instances I came across that blended horror with comedy. It was such a novelty at the time to be laughing and jumping out of my seat at the same time. It hasn't aged well, but I still appreciate it for what it once was.

  • jhubbs's rating of the film Gysertimen

Has fun with, rather than makes fun of, the genre. McDowell is the real star here, steals every scene and brings real heart to the film as Peter (Cushing) Vincent (Price). Other players do well camping it up, Geoffreys being untenable exception. Pure 80s synth score is simply legendary, as is the closing theme. Practical effects very cool! Intro off-putting. Great balance of horror/comedy overall. Labor of love 3.99

  • lemonaide's rating of the film Gysertimen

Didn't like it the same way I did when I first saw it on cable back in the late 90s. There are movies that grows out of you and unfortunately Fright Night is one of those movies. I loved this as a teenager but I won't probably see it again soon, not anymore.
