Kritikeranmeldelser

The first hour is a minor miracle of genre filmmaking. Moving between surveilling long lenses, purposeful close-ups, and tightly choreographed movements (both of the camera and the actors), Tykwer builds the entire structure of a straight procedural in order to break it down in the final third.

Much as A.I. Artificial Intelligence can be considered a posthumous message from Stanley Kubrick, conveyed by a sympathetic interpreter with a style of his own (Steven Spielberg), this can be regarded as the last word from Krzysztof Kieslowski, though delivered by German filmmaker Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) and true to his own manner. There aren’t many examples of this in film history and it’s therefore an accomplishment to be applauded and treasured.

  • Eric Rucker's rating of the film Heaven

Crazy Kieslowski and Piesiewicz: just look up Philippians (Phillipa and Filippo) in Wikipedia, launch out from there, and start to groove on their heresies! Still kicking Christian ass and taking names since The Dekalog. But deeply Christian in the best sense. Maybe. I say maybe because it is all way over my head.

  • Wee Hunk's rating of the film Heaven

If Kieslowski had directed it, it would have been darker, but not necessarily better. I thought Ribisi was fantastic as a man in love in the purest sense of the word. Even when they make love, it's pure. They also carry with them an absolute certainty about what they're doing. They're on a mission from God.

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Heaven

Tykwer does Kieslowski proud. A masterpiece. Devastatingly beautiful. Blanchett is astonishing but it's Ribisi who owns the film. How has this guy not been given roles as meaty as this one? After watching this, I gotta say he's one of the most underutilized, under appreciated, and overlooked actors around. Also has some of the most subtly great editing I've ever seen. Loved it.

  • Frankly, Mr. Shankly's rating of the film Heaven

I freaking love everything about this movie. Specially the locations and the chemistry between the central couple. And boy, what a chemistry! First time Filippo (Ribisi) puts his eye on Philippa (Blanchett) and falls in love almost instantly is nothing but magical. Kieslowski would've been proud for sure. Near perfect. The ending is flawless as well.

  • mpho3's rating of the film Heaven

"For Kieslowski, the accretion of circumstance and coincidence that governs our lives is something to be accepted and embraced: freedom comes from learning to live with your destiny. For Tykwer, fate...is something to be fought against and transcended. Watching Heaven, one can sometimes sense Kieslowski's worldview hovering like a skeleton behind the flesh of Tykwer's film." - BFI Sight & Sound

  • zac erickson's rating of the film Heaven

This was a unique movie. Not a whole lot of dialogue which allows the viewers to attach their own own meaning to the various subtle transitions throughout the movie. Acting was good, moral background that was thought provoking.

  • Christian's rating of the film Heaven

The entire experience is slightly divorced from reality, boiled into Dilaudid-like staring, staring blindly, as if the characters are being choreographed from afar like puppets. When they aren't, they crumple in tears. Finely acted, if light on plot.

  • Wesley Wilson's rating of the film Heaven

I honestly loved this movie. Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi did a fantastic job of pulling the audience in and making them forget that it is just a movie. I was not sure that I would like it at first, but wow. I will be recommending this to my family and friends because everyone should have the opportunity to see something this good.
