Extending on the gonzo surrealist flourishes of the great second instalment, Verbinski indulges in some of the most astounding imagery ever smuggled into a big budget Hollywood blockbuster. However, the repetitive set-pieces & minimal storytelling are becoming strained here & the overuse of Depp as a kind of go-to for narrative interest is pushed beyond breaking point. This feels like a franchise treading water.
Though the script is a bit confused (and confusing) sometimes, it's sheer bloody fun, has some great story ideas, is fantastically filmed and gorgeously scored. Easily the best of the four, in my humble opinion.
Although I think this kind of movie is competent in what it promises, the third was really blend for me. And for the first time I got tired of Sparrow's jokes. Won't watch the fourth, or fifth, or sixth...
Semplicemente geniale.
The maelstrom was awesome, and the characters were funny. Sparrow and Barbossa made the movie for me. I got tired of all the backstabbing. And I am glad that Orlando Bloom died. Too bad he came back to life.
...And then they put the entire pirate ship on the ground and killed most of it's characters with either improbable effects or with coldblooded gruesomeness and murder. The story is like a warty hairy sewer rat that no serious person can like. Why need three hours to finish this predictable story where even the love story feel like an afterthought put in long after this effect overkill of a movie is finished.
The single worst cinema experience I have ever suffered. It was the height of summer, the air conditioning was broken and the entire audience were squirming and impatiently shuffling through this boring overlong badly acted incomprehensible mess. No more Pirates films for me please.
