"It's a pretty sordid premise on which to build a romantic comedy. That Wilder pulls it off, treading a perilously thin line between cynicism and sentimentality, is a tribute to the man's deft touch." - Empire. But The Apartment also plays as tragedy, satire and a biting send up of office politics and corporate/capitalist mores. Perfectly executed but I felt detached from the protagonists. 3.5 stars.
