Wow ! I recently found, at last, a decent copy of this western and I don’t regret now to have waited so long to see this first Sam Peckinpah effort. The journey through the Arizona desert of these two characters wounded by life is a superb journey through guiltiness. Masterpiece.
FIRE & STONE: Maureen O'HARA & Brian KEITH. A spaghetti western before the spaghetti westerns, signed PECKINPAH the precursor. A few outbursts of violence unfortunately softened by rivers of syrup & soap.
Average at best. Peckinpahs first entry is by the numbers and the leads seem pretty bored with their characters. The plot itself is interesting, just the finished product leaves a lot to be desired. 2.5 stars, for Peckinpah completists only
Semi-entertaining piece presenting a far-fetched plot that didn't really have to turn into a love one. Although the crew isn't bad, their characters seem devoid of any credible personality or charisma. Overall result seems somewhat beta-Peckinpah.
