Charlie Chaplin created an international comedy sensation with THE GOLD RUSH, which follows his iconic "little tramp" character into the Klondike where misfortune awaits him as pursues the affections of a beautiful woman. Re-released in 1942 with narration by Chaplin and a new score, which he considered to be the definitive version of the film, although I prefer the original silent version.

The narrative arc was stupendously applied to this 1920s version. Clearly ahead of his time conceptually as well as comedically.

Physical comedy at its best,with so many memorable moments----perhaps the best as the cabin sways on the edge of the mountain. Perfect blend of comedy and tragedy.

A fun comedy, and I confess that this was my first Chaplin film. The scene towards the end, with the cabin falling off the cliff, is pure gold (no pun intended).

The 1925 version is the one to see, although if the narrated version is all you can get then snatch that up as well. I don't rate it quite as highly as some other Chaplin aficionados, many of whom consider it his best, but still a great comedy with some of Chaplin's most famous gags and sequences.

This is one of Chaplin's crowning achievements with some pretty impressive and hilarious gags that would become some of the most iconic in Chaplin's career.
