Our take

Largely improvised and shot on the run, Wender’s lovingly cinephilic film-within-a-film was made in parallel to Raúl Ruiz’s The Territory, with appearances from cult directors Sam Fuller and Roger Corman. Despite its spontaneous conception, Wenders won Venice Film Festival’s prestigious Golden Lion.
