Vox Lux Instrueret af Brady Corbet
Brady Corbet’s Vox Lux is a boldly stylised and intellectually ambitious film about pop music.

The film is an onslaught, sometimes silly, sometimes profound, but always riveting and emotional, and dazzlingly sure of itself.

At times, including in the bloody opener, Corbet seems to be following the lead of the art-film auteur Michael Haneke, whose explorations of mediated violence can skew sadistic. By the time “Vox Lux” ends, it’s clear that Corbet has his own ideas; he’s still finding his way but, at 30, he is already a dynamic filmmaker.

Hvad siger folk?

  • chanandre's rating of the film Vox Lux

[El Corte Inglès] Thrown under the bus due to a pretentious stance and a leaking ego on a road trip among such models and references as Van Sant, Trier, Cronenberg, Refn, Gray, Haneke, Campos, Safdie Bros, Carax. Corbet seems too worried in decanting cinephilia lifeboats and squirting Walker's genius track over anodyine shots./Portman surpasses Black Swan and equals Léon. Law shines as much as Stacy Martin. Missed op

  • MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film Vox Lux

The paternal, didactic voice over. "The pact with the devil". Glamour terrorism. Lady Gaga. "The world we live in". The pedantic, novelistic structure (one Lars Von Trier is enough). Vox Lux is Corbet's Southland Tales. I want a new edit that begins with prologue and ends with the church performance because what comes next is completely redundant. That movie is titled: "Never let a school shooting go to waste."

  • josé neves's rating of the film Vox Lux

"A film about the 21st century", self-proclaims this accumulation of disoriented scenes that seem more attached to each other than edited. If in the first part we still recognize his previous fineness, we quickly get a hodgepodge of images and situations that never aim for its maximum ambition:a writing about society. When the reference to Faust appears during the unbearable show, nothing makes sense anymore.

  • Ethan's rating of the film Vox Lux

Natalie Portman gives an incredible performance in this unique films that has a lot to say about the last twenty years in this country and is a true abstract vision that clearly comes together to paint a stark portrait of the world we live in even if it is told through the eyes of a delusional pop star. It may be slow in parts but there are some great moments here and overall a good flow.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Vox Lux

Pop Idolatry. Here, so many of the elements that intrigued but failed to coalesce in "The Childhood of a Leader" - the novelistic structure, overwhelming soundtrack, an obsession with the formative years of a public figure - come together to create a portrait that is beautiful, imperfect, and singularly of our present moment in time. Brady Corbet has worked with the greats and is now on his way to becoming one.

  • ig_____or's rating of the film Vox Lux

I really liked it... but the finale left a bitter taste in my mouth: I was expecting Lady Gaga and instead I got Britney at the 2007 VMA's. The show had to be perfection or not shown at all. Natalie is fucking ferocious playing the role - she is! - but she can't sing... why didn't they just use Sia's voice instead?! Nevertheless, as the 2010's come to an end, "Vox Lux" cynical look at the past 20 years won me over.

  • Nicole Richie's rating of the film Vox Lux

The first fifteen minutes are really good, but then it's all the way down from then on. I guess natalie portman can't play all roles.

  • Joe Bowman's rating of the film Vox Lux

A vapid, tedious provocation. I haven't seen a performance as truly dreadful as Natalie Portman's in years.
