3.2. Equal parts irritating and interesting. Half the movie is a candy-coloured sugar rush, while the other has a more sombre and measured tone. Director takes plenty of swipes at Japanese culture including its patriarchal society and a vacuous emoji generation. Depending on their age, women are either fetishised or deemed osolete like last years mobile phone model.
A movie revolving around the exploitation of women through a docile and pervasive femininity.
It shows eloquently how capitalism make the bridge between the conservative “dad” patriarchy (marital and domestic exploitation) AND the liberal patriarchy (economic exploitation in the workplace, the unavoidable need to be accessible by technologies). The embodiment of a political force or the vacuity of a pretty picture?
