did he change by the end...? i think gender escaped his mind when he recognized king had beat him because she was a better player and younger, not because she was a woman. that's how you beat down and eradicate prejudice. also: that hair salon scene was so Araki. Stone is always a gem.

Ahahah the look on their oh-so-male little faces. What a sad squad. Riggs might have been a great tennis player but he will never be more than a disgusting pig, just like his supporters. What's funnier? Her "tragic" affair almost destroyed her career, because lesbians had NO rights. And there are still so many minds with this switch on. Billy Jean Queen is a heroine. Let's never forget that.

Disappointing film of the Bobby Riggs/ Billie Jean King match which fails to find a consistent tone in its telling. No fault of Emma Stone who fully captures King here with a tremendous performance or of the techs who capture the period setting in great detail. Scripting and direction lack here with an unfocused intent as does Steve Carell's turn as Riggs which seems to edge more to the comedic than depth.

Inspiring little jolt of history, feminism, and sharp-tongued wit without succumbing to the worst tendencies of its occasionally flowery presentation. The film's lesbian romance was very downplayed in the marketing, but to see it come to life in an understated manner makes it surpass all the chauvinistic quips on which the film sold the core of its battle. Emma Stone adds another terrific performance to her portfolio

Incredibly, utterly boring. I watched this on a longhaul flight back to the U.S., and when I checked to see if the film was almost over, it had only been playing for 40 minutes. The casting of Steve Carrell was a miscue, or at least the writing for his character.

A perfectly fun and thoughtful film about some larger than life real characters and a great historic event (none of which I've heard about before watching the film). Though nothing felt rushed or overtly glossy, the script had great dialogues, but was kinda thin, specially regarding emotional depth in some characters. Billy Jean is a godess, Stone is great and Dayton & Faris give us some gorgeous visuals.

Dayton and Faris direct Battle of the Sexes with a great sense of north, consistently making the right decisions about how to effectively tell a story that could easily be misconstrued at the hands of lesser filmmakers. The result is a well crafted, beautifully shot, strongly performed and surprisingly contemporary film about gender politics and everything that defines them behind closed doors.

A match point on feminism and gender equality. And it was nice to see Steve Carell bring back Michael Scott for a couple of hours.
