Bird Box Regie Susanne Bier

It’s a satisfyingly high-concept contrivance. The spontaneous suicides (including a series of intentionally provoked car accidents) elicit a quick chill. A more imaginatively macabre treatment of the subject would present a wide range of variations on the theme of self-destruction—and would explicitly risk an element of comedic camp. Instead, the movie falls into it unintentionally and likely unawares.

Was sagen Andere darüber?

  • chanandre's rating of the film Bird Box

[Netflix] Tears and tears (tearing me apart). {Aphex Twin: Girl/Boy Song} Apparently no one on MUBI is missing anything, anyone, has not experienced loss or is enduring grief and since this is cool and meta or nostalgic in a cult way: here come the 2s and they're two too many. Hmmkay. |SóQueNão.| Susanne Bier always makes me cry. Bullock can be moist up in her seers yet chin won't quiver (talent!). Has inclusion ∇

  • El Biffo's rating of the film Bird Box

Damn, is this what Susanne Bier does for a living now? I liked her earlier films which were nothing like this. I couldn't watch more than 13 minutes of this creepy, violent Horror Movie and my rating is based on those 13 minutes. I have heard of "selling out", but this is quite shocking to see from a director of Arthouse Dramas.

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Bird Box

Shamelessly fun genre fare. While derivative, Bird Box is able to be its own movie out of its obvious influences & in some cases, it betters upon them (like the happening except good). It also helps that it's got a roster of some of the best actors working today in it & has a sense of humor when needed. What holds it back though is its jarring flashback structure, which gets in the way of narrative momentum

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Bird Box

Crowds online crying "this female director is at the top of her game", but clearly they haven't seen Open Hearts or Brothers. This was predictable, full of hollow tension, bad horror tropes, and uneven performances (Bullock's unnatural performance was heightened by the 4K view of her surgery-frozen face). I watched, puzzled, waiting for the moment where I understood the hype.

  • Nicholas Gregory's rating of the film Bird Box

The script’s ideas are quite phenomenally creative, and certain thematic and character-building details are very smart. Yet, the dialogue suffers from a really bad ear for human interaction and in the actual playing of drama. While Director Susanne Bier— known before for grounded arthouse dramas— handling of a film of this type and scale proves an ineffective helmer of the action/horror set pieces and of pacing.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Bird Box

A solid apocalyptic thriller in the vein of "The Mist" or "The Happening." This one is bolstered by a surprisingly stellar cast (Sarah Paulson! B.D. Wong!), and the fact it actually interrogates the point of surviving in a world where no civilization - or hope - remains. That this went straight to Netflix tells me there's little market for the midbudget, star-driven, R-rated genre film, which seems a shame.

  • Joe Bowman's rating of the film Bird Box

Puzzled by the negative responses to this. Familiar, certainly, but better than 80% of the films released in the theatre in the US over the past five years. It and its resolution are perhaps too satisfying for my taste, but... I suppose I'm more forgiving than I thought.

  • Wee Hunk's rating of the film Bird Box

You don't even want to know about the deviations from the book. Let's just say they juiced it up. I really like America's sweetheart when she gets mean. Sure, it felt derivative of about 20 other movies. For example the opening scene where she's trying to get the kids motivated reminded me of Liam Neeson in 'Taken'. "If you take off your blindfold, I will find you and I will kill you!"
