Captain Marvel Regie Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck
Women’s anger is finally being recognized as a political force, a comprehensive social reckoning, and its own genre across all forms of media, as driven and typified by the Strong Female Protagonist.

What used to be thought of as superior feminine intuition is replaced here by boyish aggression and dissatisfied spoiling for a fight. Captain Marvel messes up Women’s History Month because its juvenile story goes against the feminine confidence that Inger Stevens showed 50 years ago in 5 Card Stud when she told Dean Martin, “If I wanted to kill a man, I wouldn’t have to use a gun.”

It’s hard for a character whose fluid identity is inherent in the story to compete with a pop-culture icon who’s lasted since 1941… but when the space battles start, this Captain Marvel at least stays in the game.

Was sagen Andere darüber?

  • Palmat's rating of the film Captain Marvel

An Ok but middling effort that apes the blandness and lacklustre spirit of the action and sci-fi movies of the 90´s. It's competently made but lacks urgency, vision and a voice of its own. And for the first marvel movie with a woman at the center this is a sure misfire. I seriously hope that they step up their game for Black Widow cause this does not cut it, female hero or not...

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Captain Marvel

A perfectly adequate superhero film and that's what's so frustrating about it. The problem is that the directors are unwilling to double down on the sci-fi genre elements. Afraid of being seen as too geeky, they try to 'ground' the film & make it more 'elliptical'; sapping some of the fun out of it. Captain Marvel is serviceable entertainment but with different directors at the helm, it could've been something great.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Captain Marvel

It's hard to tell if Marvel is competent or merely content that even their middling efforts have a chance at breaking box office records. "Captain Marvel's" first act does a pitiful job of establishing why the audience should care about Danvers or have a stake in its Kree vs. Skrull conflict. The film finds its footing once it becomes a buddy cop flick, but should we demand more from our $150 million entertainment?

  • Ethan's rating of the film Captain Marvel

Brie Larson explodes off the screen in this fun comic book movie that delivers on action, laughs, and social commentary. Never a dull moment in this sci-fi, buddy comedy, road picture, with a strong feminist message and a killer 90s soundtrack. A nice addition to Marvel Cinematic Universe and an all around good film.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Captain Marvel

7 March 2019 Imax. The latest from the Marvel machine is a solid enough entry which both thrills and entertains but somehow fails to measure up to the high marks in the 20 plus film series. Brie Larson is quite good as the title character with able support from the rest of the cast but the film's direction seems uninspired and often flat.

  • Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film Captain Marvel

The bland, repetitive and plain boring Marvel CGI fest continues with yet another painfully safe installment. Cinema is often at its finest when it's just two people in a room, talking, and that's what I liked most here. Larson and Jackson have great chemistry and I wished the movie would be just the two talking about duct tape, cats, and alien life.

  • Steve Pulaski's rating of the film Captain Marvel

From its 90s staples, washed-out color palette, and retrograde intergalactic battles, "Captain Marvel" feels like the big-budget 90s Marvel film we never got to see. Its pacing and conventional origins story recall Phase One Marvel, and Brie Larson's personality gets smothered by special effects you'd believe are trying to look like "Star Trek: The Next Generation." It's enjoyable, but its protagonist is underserved.

  • Andhika Eka Buana's rating of the film Captain Marvel

It's highly ironic that the most progressive MCU film to date (first female superhero! first film directed by female director!) turned out to be its most regressive. Sure, the setting's in the 90's, but does it mean that the script, the direction, and the special effects all has to look 90's too?
