Nerdy Buster Keaton has no time for sports, only studying. But the girl he loves wants an athlete, so when he follows her to college, he does everything in his power to learn a new sport, to predictably disastrous results. One of Keaton's most accomplished, smaller scale comedies, doesn't focus on large scale set-pieces as much as more subtle, physical comedy. A hugely charming effort from one of the great comedians
While certainly not among Keaton's very best films, this one's consistently funny. Keaton plays a bookworm who tries to take up college sports to impress a girl. Most of the film centers on his increasingly disastrous attempts to play a succession of sports. There are also a few sequences where Keaton tries to hold down part time jobs, including one where he dons black face to pose as a "colored waiter".
La cadencia y calidad de los gags es impresionante con momentos tan geniales en planteamiento y en ejecución como el gag del manteo o cuando actúa como "timón humano".
El ritmo es sensacional. Aparte de esta pelicula, solo he visto "The general".
Me alegra que algunos digan que es una "obra menor" pues me esperan grandes joyas por descubrir de Keaton. Excelente: 5 estrellas
Lower end spectrum for Keaton with some good skits and some classic stone-face hilarity but it is bogged down by a highly questionable black-face scene and some mediocre plot elements. But you're not watching Keaton for plot, you're watching him for some great staged set pieces and physical humor, done by a character who faces adversity with the tenacity of a stone wall, and you'll find enough of that here.
