Rambo Regie Ted Kotcheff

Wait for the keystone moment: a monologue from Stallone frantically distills the atrocities of war and his utter displacement, a testament to his acting skills beyond Rocky (seriously), and cements a bold recognition of lingering terror, so much so that it brought this author (a child of the 80s) to shed a tear.

It isn’t just a film about someone who has almost lost the power of speech, it is fundamentally a silent film. Silent about all the big questions whose formulations it delays as much as possible. Silent about buried causes and ultimate motives, silent in the face of violence and nature. We should be grateful to Stallone to have re-invented for this film an acting style with wide-eyes and gazes as expressive as semaphores.

Was sagen Andere darüber?

  • chanandre's rating of the film Rambo

Rambo is like a wandering minority. Never quite saw his character like that thru this particular gaze. He 'looks' different, 'acts' different, 'moves' different, 'lives' different thus he's kicked out of town instantly. The way that cop (played devilishly by Dennehy) taunts him is realistic to this day: someone that preys, stalks and harasses a citizen out, even if he's no outsider at all. A very relevant film today▽

  • film_lies101's rating of the film Rambo

Teasle's resentment and contempt towards Rambo is never established so the story just comes off as a fucking joke. The dialogue is laughable, the acting is caricature at best. The locations are lovely and just made me want to watch 'Twin Peaks' instead

  • Samuel T.'s rating of the film Rambo

Re-view. After like nearly 30 years. American masterpiece. I'm double featuring this with Bob Clark's DEATHDREAM for sure. Yes, this is big American camera-action. It's also radical commentary on the effects of Vietnam. And highly entertaining. Part 2 was my childhood favorite (and almost for certain a lesser film). Regardless, sorry people, I'm sticking with John Rambo. He has no other option except to h(a)unt you.

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Rambo

Ted Kotcheff turns the traditional action-thriller on its end with this film, depicting a traumatized ex-soldier being prodded by lawmen until he snaps. A sincere and emotionally-charged film about the treatment of discharged soldiers that happens to have incredible action sequences. The cinematography is rather pretty - misty and grey - and the leads give great performances. Truly a classic.

  • Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Rambo

Before the character of Rambo became a superhero and then pop-culture icon/joke, he originated in this pretty well-made action thriller. It's not without a few over the top moments, but features a number of expertly-crafted action sequences, a strong cast, and more psychological depth than you'd expect from your typical 80s action movie. A solid film that deserves its cult following.

  • VENIMOS LOS JODIMOS Y NOS FUIMOS's rating of the film Rambo

  • Michael H. CLAES's rating of the film Rambo

Seul contre tous. One man against all. Loved it for the same stupid reason that make me like Death Wish with Charles BRONSON and Falling Down with Michael DOUGLAS.

  • anarresti's rating of the film Rambo

In Portugal this is called "Rambo" and the sequels "Rambo II", "Rambo III" etc.. So I mistook the 2008 Rambo for this. And it's about all I have to say about Rambo. I was very surprised to see what seems to me like a Rambo rehabilitation. I still dislike it a lot. As a kid I did not like it and the aversion only grew.
