Kill Your Darlings is a feverish, beautifully shot period piece. I think Dane DeHaan is a terrific actor, and Ben Foster plays an exceptional William S. Burroughs. I was intrigued the whole way through, but it does feel predictable at times.
It's the 'Allen Ginsburg goes to school' movie. What could have been an interesting take on events that helped form the so-called 'Beat generation' winds up so muddled and frankly boring that it becomes almost nauseous inducing. Blame the uninspired direction and the extreme miscasting. Of interest would be fine turns by rising stars Dane Dehaan and Jack Huston. Stick to the documentaries on this subject.
Interesting, but not very engaging. The performances were all good with Dane DeHaan as Lucien Carr being a standout - though sometimes distractingly similar to Leonardo DiCaprio. Ben Foster as William S. Burroughs and Michael C. Hall as David Kammerer are also notable. Overall, though, a rather disappointing movie.
VERSOS DE UM CRIME é a aventura de um diretor estreante. Bem filmado. Bem picante. Elegante. Econômico. Como suspense é perfeitamente envolvente, mas diante do sangue que corre na tela o que falta é alma. Pena...
There has never been a film that more accurately captures and embodies the spirit of the Beats Gen - the depravity, self-indulgence, nihilistic-hope. In this the dead are brought to life, as are the literature and lack of conventional morality that drive it.
