Its script, by Rebecca Blunt, is taut and intricate, with a mosaic-like intercutting between characters and places, brashly interjected narrative parentheticals, and an explanatory circling-back that’s pulled off with a mercurial sleight of hand. It’s also tangy with felicitously folksy found verbal objects that blend an elbows-out brusqueness with the warm, sometimes overheated intimacy of lifelong bonds.

The film hums along at a brisk pace, with just the right balance of requisite verbalized planning, character perspective, action, and a hearty dose of humor (comic recesses include elaborate dioramas, impromptu equations chalked on the wall, and a hilarious nod to Game of Thrones). Engaging an impressive variety of camera set-ups, movements, and visual punctuations, Soderbergh, an impeccable visual storyteller, keeps these multilayered dynamics comfortably and judiciously at play.

When faced with a choice between myth and reality, most take the myth. Logan Lucky burrows deep in that myth, sets up shop, and demolishes its core — even as it sustains the generic shell of the hillbilly heist. It’s an incredibly entertaining movie that will undoubtedly become a staple of cable television and on-demand. But it’s also a sly indictment of Trump, and the pervasive myths — of his own business acumen, of the white working class — that have shepherded his rise.

Was sagen Andere darüber?

  • Eric Rucker's rating of the film Logan Lucky

I found it much more interesting when it worked at portraying round characters from the south than the flat cut-out and stereotyped comic side of the same people. Not a terribly interesting heist or prison movie. Sort of entertaining but not especially funny.

  • Carlos Filipe Freitas's rating of the film Logan Lucky

While the acting is effervescent and the camerawork assertive, the plot stays a few holes below Soderbergh’s remake of “Ocean’s 11”. However, one can sense his passion when dabbling in this particular genre, even if I dig better his low-budgeted, art-house independent inventions. (3.5 stars)

  • Addy K.'s rating of the film Logan Lucky

It is easy to mistake the laid-back charm of LOGAN LUCKY for dull, airless directing. A Robin Hood fantasy set in West Virginia, there's zero condescension from writer Rebecca Blunt (secretly Jules Asner) or the supremely confident Soderbergh as small-town folk bumble their way through life in a repressed economy. Only Craig's stunt casting and an extended GoT joke dampen the well-orchestrated hillbilly authenticity.

  • josé neves's rating of the film Logan Lucky

Digital. A crap that repeats and reads the series of Ocean's films, moreover mentioned in the film itself, which accumulates a wealth of bad frames and actors in a crude and stereotypical charge - one more of the usual contemporary films and filmmakers who appropriates cinema to make a stand up comedian show shock. Just gross.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Logan Lucky

Soderbergh's return to the director's chair is an entertaining enough 'movie' but certainly lacks the spark and creativity of previous efforts. As his 'Oceans' films demonstrate there is nothing wrong with providing entertainment, but the Soderbergh of 'Bubble', 'Schizopolis' and 'Sex, Lies and Videotape' is nowhere in sight here.

  • Z's rating of the film Logan Lucky

Very well crafted with a sharp, funny and fun script. It is a genuine pleasure to listen to the character's dialogue as they plan and execute their rather brilliant heist. Daniel Craig is a delight and Adam Driver's many hilarious, perfect reaction shots are hysterically funny. Channing Tatum gives the film a grounded and touching center. Riley Keough and Katherine Waterston are both superb. A late summer surprise.

  • Sean Patrick Stevens's rating of the film Logan Lucky

Not condescending as I imagined it would be. In fact, I really loved everything about this one. The efficiency of the OCEAN 11 movies perfectly merges with the idiosyncratic humor of the art house variety for a crowdpleaser. Great performances all around especially with Daniel Craig's line readings which are totally hilarious!

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Logan Lucky

The best heist film since I dunno when (take that baby driver). Soderbergh again shows himself to be a master; his shots are economical, purposeful, and pretty. It also deals with great subversion, its redneck imagery and characters are used to rebel against the corrupted culture, namely a corporate one where they use the perverted system against itself to win (like Soderbergh & Co.). One of the best of the year.
