Blanche and Lea meet and become friends. Lea is thinking of leaving her boyfriend Fabien, and Blanche falls for Lea’s dashing, witty friend Alexandre, but is tongue-tied with him. Lea goes on holiday, and Blanche, still smitten with Alexandre, begins to get to know Fabien.

A playful film in which we are taught how comically wrong our intuitions can be. As always, Rohmer knows how to balance realistic emotions and social interactions, and playful situations that are just unlikely enough to happen in real life to serve the comical purpose. On another note: how incredibly beautiful are those suburbs of Paris? Beautiful film in each and every way.
What a lovely movie from Éric Rohmer- a philosophical musing on the nature and morals of love that is also a great character piece. The moment at the end where the couples are wearing the reverse color patterns is just one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen!
Rohmer is a master of fables, an inventive storyteller who takes gold out of nothing. Each of his films makes the viewer want to live a bit inside of it, and it's no different with this one. His female characters are always so absurdly human that it is almost impossible not to identify with them. And the plot has the rhythm of life itself.
When I first watched it I found it to be exceedingly average. Second time I was rather flattened with its mastery. Now I think it's extraordinary, Ozu-esque. Frankly I find all the freaking color-swapping to be boring as all get out... but the rest...
