Possibly the most famous GPO short chiefly for the eponymous Auden poem. What strikes me about these films is the variety of product (compare to Len Lye’s abstracts) and a world of apparently gainful employment. This last isn’t nostalgia but in world of encroaching AI onto an already challenged workplace the notion of everyone having a job to do and work they could point to at the end the day is a persuasive one.
I really dug the Eisensteinian editing (cutting on movement, not that it'sPotemkin-esque). This movie makes mail fun. I'm picturing the camera operator hanging out of the train to get that shot of the [apparatus] as it whizzed over the tracks. Pretty cool stuff.
