The narrative itself actually becomes more conventional as the film proceeds. A little past the halfway mark, Sunshine basically turns into a slasher movie in space. But this development is treated in such cursory fashion that it feels like nobody told the director.

Was sagen Andere darüber?

  • anarresti's rating of the film Sunshine

An interesting (space) mission gone wrong film. There is always the feeling that these plots funnel. Probably that's why usually when they tend to horror (like 1979 Alien) they get more interesting. Because sci-fi films are expected to explore the premise set up in the beggining, and not abandon it. There's also the equivalent to what in music is "ambient" like, Gravity. And I do think Gravity is a nice flick.

  • T. J. Harman's rating of the film Sunshine

I'm not a big Boyle fan but I really liked this one. I understand peoples' problems with the last 40ish min but it's so well directed and I'd already read about this tonal shift that it didn't bother me so much. The special effects/cinematography and electronic soundtrack are pretty great.

  • Mugino's rating of the film Sunshine

SF fans are so starved for quality material that we can be quite forgiving, even about the much vilified ending. Then I saw "Solar Crisis" made nearly two decades earlier. It clearly makes Alex Garland a shameless plagiarist who even stole the weak ending. If you're going to rip off another film, at least have the decency to improve upon it.

  • Palmat's rating of the film Sunshine

Good sci-fi movie with a fine cast and stellar production design. The score is a bit bland and could have used more personality to underscore the drama and action better. The direction is very strong but the writing is a bit uneven making a hurried mess of setting up characters and basic plotting. And the twist in the third act does not work at alla since it feels like a cheat to revert to stalk & slash.

  • Zac Weber's rating of the film Sunshine

Sunshine is quite memorable, even though I wouldn't call it exceptional. The visuals are gorgeous and I enjoyed some of the narrative ambiguity, but the characters are less than compelling. The devolution into stalker horror is disappointing and confusing.

  • ramosbarajas's rating of the film Sunshine

In spite of everything, I have to say that I love this film. Maybe the end is drastically different from the beginning, but I like it overall. Probably my favorite aspect is the cast. The cast is diverse, talented, and realistic, a fact which, sadly, is not at all common in the film industry. And rarer still in science fiction films. This is somewhat true for Boyle's oeuvre.

  • Harry Rossi's rating of the film Sunshine

Loved it. The best Danny Boyle movie I've seen so far. Cillian Murphy is fantastic as well as Chris Evans. The photography was brilliant and on a whole I found the film quite remarkable. I even moved a little bit. Didn't mind the ending but it certainly wasn't my favorite part of the movie. Goddamn this was gripping from beginning to end.

  • Zachary T.'s rating of the film Sunshine

Masterful interstellar chiller from Danny Boyle, who demonstrates admirable stylistic restraint and focus. Crackling chemistry among the brilliant, international ensemble cast. Haunting score from Brit electronic group Underworld. Excessively maligned for succumbing to all-out horror in its climax; I see a body-horror payoff earned by the previous hour's suffocating atmosphere and contemplation of mortality.
