Anyone who thinks Leni Riefenstahl was nothing but a nazi propagandist needs to see this film, which shows that her true feelings are on the side of the persecuted. She denied ever being a nazi, and after seeing this, I definitely believe her.
A gorgeously shot , poetic "fairy tale" like the viewer below stated, that can be troubling when one thinks about beyond just the director's reputation by association, which gives off Rand-ian/Nietzsche-ian vibes about special Junta is over the community. Riefenstahl is the rare female director from this time whose bad rep is her own fault and not sexist institutions because she is as great as Eisenstein or Welles.
Fairytale as its best. Well executed and arranged. Innocent and Haunted Junta striving only for beauty (blue light) - just how calculative Leni (eis gletscherspalte) pictured herself later on her memoirs. The beauty has nothing to do with the truth.
