OLIVIER executioner in Marathon Man (does it hurt?) is here nazi hunter! Bestseller adapter SCHAFFNER made his film after an improbable book by Ira LEVIN. Grotesk & delirious. === Ancien bourreau nazi (Marathon Man), OLIVIER en devient chasseur! Après PAPILLON, SCHAFFNER adapte LEVIN. Grotesque & délirant. Watch rather good 78 movies like Gates of Heaven, Midnight Express, Blue Collar, Days of Heaven, Interiors.
Political thriller or SF, call it as you like, but it is an interesting object that might surprise you. Adapting the novel from Ira Levin, Schaffner first pretends to care for the investigation, a Nazi hunt where Gregory Peck, rarely enough, plays the villain. You’ll slowly realize that the film is more ambitious and the steady low-profile directing from Schaffner holds it together. The last ambiguity is delightful.
Whoa. This is not what I thought this film was about. I enjoyed the humour because it so contrasted with the complexities of the bonkers plot. It took me a while to get used to Olivier in this modern world, because to me he is Maxim De Winter, Nelson, Heathcliff, Hamlet. I need to see more of his later work, because he is more than that, he's funny.
An absolutely ludicrous watch from start to finish. Tonally it's all over the place with drama, comedy & the absurd mashed together in rather unsubtle fashion. The fact James Mason & Gregory Peck are Nazis along with Laurence Olivier as a Nazi hunter is truly bizarre. Watching the aging Olivier & Peck wrestle in a bloody heap with their dubious German accents is the peak of the film's odd, hammy allure.
This is easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen so it's quite worth a look if only to shake your head in utter disbelief about the number of renowned actors and actresses who took part in this atrocity. Gregory Peck delivers a perfomance which is awful and tasteless in every possible way. Laurence Olivier is the better overactor but an overactor all the same. Direction, script, music are all utterly terrible.
I live in Lisbon for almost 20 years and I didn't realized that Paraguay was located here (most precisely between the areas I previously knew as Belém and Chiado).
OK, despite this thing (which was very funny for me to see that Lisbon could be someday used for a shooting with this purpose), I loved The Boys From Brazil, a hell of a thriller that deals with a modern problem: the new rising of nazism and...
