Sobering documentary takes a look at the epidemic of rape cases in the United States Military and the lack of prosecution that has failed to help the growing legion of victims or bring their assailants to justice. Spotlights a very real problem, but the film itself is often ponderous and overly manipulative, never really delving into what is actually causing the rape epidemic, which would have made a stronger film.
Absolutely devastating documentary. The US armed forces seem to be a magnifying glass of what are in fact very general problems of the patriarchal society: Violence against women (and men), victim blaming, stonewalling investigations. Multiply this with issues of insufficient health insurance and other social security blackouts and you'll want to throw up next time you hear "band of brothers and sisters" somewhere.
Does a great job of presenting the problem without looking to "predatory" on the particular cases but at the same time managing to fully express how sickening is the trend as a whole. Kirby Dick confirm himself an extremely good documentarist.
finally a great documentary that addresses the issue of rape of women AND men in the military. it's disgusting. i wanted to purge myself of ever watching this because of how many terrible things have happened to these people. this is how you do a documentary.
A great doc that brings to light an issue that seems to be and epidemic and a real black eye on all branches of the American military. The stonewalling of a solution to have sexual assault cases be handled by an independent unit outside of the military chain of command speaks volumes to the priorities of the military, which seems to be more concerned with public perception then doing the right thing.
