Peter, a “house tuner” in New York, works meticulously to diagnose the ambient noises adversely affecting his clients’ moods. However, when he is hired by Ellen, a lonely woman plagued by chronic exhaustion, Peter finds that the mysteries of the soul may be even greater than the mysteries of sound.

Peter Sarsgaard often operates according to his own enigmatic frequencies, and here the character actor exactingly fine-tunes his persona as an eccentric intellectual. Playing an audiophile who has a near-mystic obsession with ambient sounds, he exudes weirdness in a magnetic performance.
