A flop in cinemas when it was released a mere two weeks after E.T., John Carpenter’s body-horror remake has since been reclaimed as a genre classic. Updating the paranoid themes of its 1951 antecedent for the age of pioneering special effects, The Thing has lost none of its vital, visceral power.
