Synopsis

A young Donald Trump, eager to make his name as a son of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn, the cutthroat attorney. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé. Someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Our take

Arriving in cinemas just in time for the upcoming US election, Ali Abbasi’s period tragicomedy charts the rise of one Donald J. Trump. With a pair of powerhouse performances from Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong, The Apprentice is a provocative snapshot of the gilded path to fortune and infamy.
