Anna, a young fallen woman, reunites with her estranged father Chris, a skipper on a coal barge, who had abandoned her with cruel and abusive relatives on a farm. Anna falls in love with sailor Matt, who proposes to marry her, but she struggles to tell him and her father about her dark past.
