Synopsis

Thirty years after the Brazilian dictatorship, Michael Wahrmann is afraid its victims will be forgotten. This inspired him to make his first feature, in which he incorporates his own experiences as a young left-wing militant in Israel alongside themes such as family traumas and suppressed memories.

Our take

The memory of Brazil’s dictatorship, left-wing politics, and a buried collective trauma are some of the many themes in this political comedy. A father-son narrative drives Michael Wahrmann’s ingenious, offbeat exploration of the effects of violent national histories on present-day personal stories.
