A loose remake of the similarly titled 1981 classic, Ratu Ilmu Hitam is chockfull of genuine unease and blood-curling visuals. The film is no cheap scare, however, as director Kimo Stamboel deftly grounds the adrenaline-rushing style with a tale of buried trauma, scripted by the great Joko Anwar.
