The movie balances a wicked sense of humor and brutal violence to disturbing effect. Building on the anxiety of a broken-down vehicle in the middle of nowhere, the film teases out a number of difficult ethical situations before delving deep into blood and carnage. Undeniably, the film was made using the stylistic tropes of 1970s exploitation films – though, unlike many of them, Wolf Creek urges the audiences to intimately experience the pain of their characters.
