“Obviously there are all different types of movies and we’re all after different things, but [those films] are a type of wish fulfillment where you get the great moment with the not-such-a-great father on the deathbed where he says, ‘I was kind of a shit but I’m sorry and I love you.’ That’s wish fulfillment, and there is probably room for those sorts of [pictures] but The Savages wasn’t one of them.”
