“I found that at the end of the first week I knew what the movie was going to be visually, for me, in terms of light and camera movement. So now, I talk to the first AD and try to get a lot of latitude in that first week. The first week defines the picture, but it’s pretty subtle, and it gives me a confidence in the understanding of how I see the film at a gut level.”
