A Woman Like Eve shows esthetic evolution with a clear use of setting and design to impress mood on the viewer. One feels Eve’s confinement in those tight halls and compressed rooms of her home. One feels the coldness in the shades of grey and white that make up the apartment’s décor. One feels the concrete gloominess of the city. Conversely, the viewer feels the radiance of the French countryside and its bohemian residents.

We Are Cult
As the titular character, Monique van de Ven gives an affecting, empathetic and radiant performance rooted in her character’s everydayness, as an ordinary woman who finds herself in extraordinary circumstances, and meets the challenges, conflicts and contradictions that confront her by going through emotions of naivety, innocence, curiosity, fragility, resilience, and above all open-heartedness, and it’s her performance that has most made this film linger in my thoughts.

Big Mama Rag
The movie's main flaw is its overabundance of mushy scenes in which starry-eyed feminists gather around to sing Meg Christian's "The Rock Will Wear Away", the film's theme song. Despite its sentimentality, A Woman Like Eve is a thoughtful, sensitive and accurate film about a subject which is almost invariably mistreated.
