An amazing and melancholic early work from Oshii. Beautiful animation, thought-provoking storyline, unforgettable score, nothing more I can say or add except just see this to believe it yourself. It's all about the end of time this anime is.
Beautiful. That's the only word for it. Sure, you can throw surreal or enigmatic or even haunting at it but it's really just a simple movie about a dark religious journey and every second is carved out of beauty. And that's coming from someone who isn't the biggest anime fan.
Though I'm not really getting it, but this is surely a beautiful artwork. The rare dialog succeeded to point out its alienated feel, melancholic music, and great visual experience. There are many frames that will make you just wanna pause and capture it. The usage of symbols like fish, egg, water, cross, bird, etc are perfect for easter holiday. Definitely gonna rewatch it!
Some of the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen. Angel's Egg should be essential viewing to any fan of animation. It takes the high road with a minimal plot and lets viewers soak up each dark, rainy, and evocative shot. Simply stunning.
i like the fact that this movie isn't only visually pleasing, but also has a plot that's simple and interesting, leaving room for various interpretations. yoshitaka amano is an amazing artist and mamoru oshii really pulled thorugh on this one. perfect
i feel a little angry and hurt that i'd never heard of this film until last week! one of the most beautiful, atmospheric, mysterious and moving things i've ever seen. for me it puts something that's 'outside of allegory' in a nutshell. phew.
