The UK's answer to "The Wire," and Netflix's best kept secret? So far, I'm devouring it. Fast-paced, beautifully shot, slickly edited, and brimming with sociological complexity. Carey Mulligan expertly leads a rock-solid multicultural ensemble. Reinstate the hyperlink drama as a cultural staple! Another reason I miss the noughties.
At times gripping, Collateral loses steam as the narrative progresses. On the one hand, the mystery is well developed and quasi-realistic, avoiding unnecessary fanfare, but on the other, the melodramatic elements and the white knight crusade stick out like a sore thumb. In sum, it's worth the watch, but take it with a grain of salt.
