Disappointing but not as bad as you've heard. The story didn't reach far enough but the extent of the action is a little bit more than the trailer showed. Admittedly my love of the comic sort of prevented me from liking The Green Lantern more but those dumb moments sort of stunted its greatness for me. Oh, and not enough of the rest of the Corps...! On the plus side the cast isn't bad and said action is pretty wild.
I really don't see why everyone and their grandmother hate this movie so much. Sure, it is not a great comic book movie but it is certainly no worse than what DC or Marvel has churned out in recent years. It is kinda fun and breezy and moves pretty fast and Reynolds suits the suit.
It ought to be illegal to put actresses in "The Girlfriend" role after they've proven they don't need that bullshit. Blake Lively's better than this. Well, so are Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Angela Bassett, and Jon Tenney, so at least she's not alone.
That it might aptly have been subtled "Triumph of the Will" suggests the troubling ideological underpinnings of this film. Of course, this would be easier to overlook if this were a better film. Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong liven the film up a little when they're on screen, though once things really get going, the make-up effects used on Sarsgaard suggest a giant scrotum sack in place of a forehead.
