Reseñas críticas

The director’s no-nonsense approach to the action, utilizing impressive stunt work and steering clear of elaborate effects, as well as his fairly cavalier attitude toward the story itself, might have gotten lost amid a mess of studio tentpole behemoths. Even so, this effective, ruthless piece of filmmaking probably deserves to be better known.

This repetitiveness is a feature, not a bug. In terms of its casting, structure, and style, Haywire is an oddity: a B-movie scattered with A-list movie stars cast as ciphers. Calling it “stripped down” doesn’t quite cut it: It’s more like a Bourne-style spy thriller that’s had the hood popped to expose the pistons pumping away underneath. The dialogue is sparse, the sound design is skeletal, the emotional stakes are muted.

If Haywire’s script, by Lem Dobbs (who wrote the similarly spare The Limey) were as generous to Carano as Soderbergh, the film may have lingered in the mind rather faded into distant memory as a momentary January pleasure. For the most part, it’s silly and uninspired, with a story that provides the thinnest connective tissue between its series of invigorating set-tos, even as it ping-pongs among Barcelona, Dublin, New Mexico, and finally the Mediterranean.
