For all the apparent chaos, this is a tightly controlled piece of work which fully delivers on the promise of Stolevski’s earlier films. It’s a fascinating change of direction which marks him out as one of the most promising talents of his generation.

A fizzy, huggable portrait of a self-made, roughly blended queer family... [Stolevski] demonstrates a sure touch with non-professional and younger actors, drawing out very accomplished performances.

A vital, febrile multi-character study... Stolevski’s lively, garrulous script may be plot-heavy, but the film isn’t propelled as much by grand narrative turns as it is by the powderkeg reactivity of its characters... A superb ensemble is fully alive to the funny, fractious possibilities of [his] writing.

Housekeeping for Beginners is Stolevski’s most emotionally mature outing yet, and trips only in rhythm... [It's a] poignant ode to the radical potential of camaraderie.

Stolevski has a sense of humour, but it’s tender, empathetic and honest, as everyone gets to misbehave at least once... Stolevski shows real people who hurt those they love all the time and smoke way too much, and who they sleep with – well, that’s their business. It doesn’t define them.

[Housekeeping for Beginners] is a tough ride, alright... But it confirms Stolevski’s standing, established with the witchy thriller You Won’t Be Alone, as a filmmaker of impressive originality, skill and style. Goran Stolevski. Remember that name.
